Empowering Your Mindfulness: Yoga              

In this relaxing activity, children will learn how to control their bodies, breathe, focus and relax using yoga.  A yoga mat will be provided.

Empowering Your Mindfulness: Galaxy Calming Jar   

In this calming, activity, children will create a calming jar in order to introduce them to how their mind works when experiencing difficult emotions and how to calm down during difficult times.  The materials for the calming jar will be provided.

Empowering Your Culture & Identity: DNA Bracelets

Know WHO you are, WHAT’s expected of you & WHAT you expect of yourself. Identity:  The definition of identity is who you are, the way you think about yourself, the way you are viewed by the world and the characteristics that define you through the creation of a DNA bracelet.  Beads and materials will be provided

In this interactive activity, the children will be introduced to the basics of coding and how coding is used to create video games.

Empowering Your Culture & Identity: Family Crest Design

With a little artistic expression, this activity helps Tweens learn about themselves and provides a perfect opportunity to share some of the values and interests that have been important to our families for generations through the creation of a family crest.

In this interactive activity, the children will learn about the rights they receive as US citizen and why knowing your rights is important.

Empowering Your Voice: My Life Matters!  Young, Black, and Something on my Mind

In this activity, the children will discuss serious topics that are impacting African American youth and ways they can take a stand against injustice and inequality.

Empowering Your Culture & Identity: Self advocacy and Advocacy for Others through Music

The sound of Change: Through the power of music and song, this activity encourages Tweens to think about the music that inspires them and learn about the songs that have shaped the Black experience.

In this exciting activity, the children will learn how African dance has played a role in many popular dances.  Children will also get a lesson in African dance.

Empowering Your Culture & Identity: The Origins of Step

Stepping is an art form. Stepping has become a worldwide phenomenon practiced by people of all ages and across many walks of life. Step finds its roots in Africa but is uniquely African-American.  Step emerged in the 1900s when call & response mixed with dance was used to uplift, to unify. Popularized by the Divine 9, this is a hallmark of our HBCUs.
