The Honorable County Court Judge Phoebee Rebecca Francois was appointed by Governor Rick Scott on June 29, 2018. She began her commission on July 2, 2018. She was elected by the voters of Broward County to continue to serve our community in August of 2020. Judge Francois is currently assigned to criminal division MD at the main Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Judge Francois is fluent in three languages, English, French, and Creole. Judge Francois received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Temple University in 1990, after which she received her Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law in 1994.
Judge Francois spends countless hours volunteering her time and talents in service to at-risk youth in the South Florida community. She currently serves on the Board of the Community Action Agency Advisory Board, Broward Meals on Wheels, Olympic Senior Games, Community Access Center and volunteers with the Make-A-Wish Foundation as a wish granter. She is also a member of the Zeta Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated in Fort Lauderdale.
Judge Francois previously served two years as a Special Master with the City of Miami Gardens. In October of 2009, she served as a Hearing Officer/Magistrate in Broward County, Florida, and was later appointed to serve as the Supervisor for all of the Magistrates and Hearing Officers.
Judge Francois has been recognized for her work in the community. She was awarded the “Women of Distinction Award” by the Lauderhill Chamber of Commerce in 2015, she was featured as one of South Florida’s most powerful and influential leaders’ of 2018 in Legacy Magazine, and she received the Community Pillar Award from the Gwen Cherry Women’s Lawyers Association.
