Ms. Toney’s professional career includes responsible roles in public policy, higher education and entrepreneurship, public affairs, community development and state and local government in Florida, Georgia and the District of Columbia.
Ms. Toney is a civic philanthropist having chaired the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; served as second vice chairman of the Miami Dade Economic Advocacy Trust Board; and a 39-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

A native Miamian and a graduate of the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Marketing, Ms. Toney earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to returning to Miami in 2002, Ms. Toney served as Chief of Staff and Research Director for the Deputy Mayor for Children, Youth and Families in Washington, D.C.

A serial entrepreneur, from 2011-2013, Ms. Toney opened a new high-end consignment boutique, located in North Miami, specializing in better mall brand and designer apparel, shoes and accessories. Her latest venture is Ellavations, LLC, a social equity consulting firm specializing in higher education, workforce development, community development and public policy.

Ms. Toney is married to Fredric Toney and they have one daughter, Savannah, a senior at the University of Southern California.
