Mavis Parkman James begin her Jack and Jill tenure in the Jackson, MS chapter in 1985. On the chapter level, she served as a two nonconsecutive term President, Chapter Vice President, Chapter Treasurer, Chapter Recording Secretary as well as grade group Leader and committee chair to numerous committees. On the regional level, she served as the Southeastern region’s Secretary/Treasurer, Endorsed Candidate, and National Officer of the region. On the National level, she has served as committee member to the National Headquarters committee, Chair of Finance Committee and National Treasurer. She Continue to serve as the 5 Star Advisor and serves on the National Governance Committee representing the Southeastern Region. She is an active Associate in the organization. Associate Mavis is currently Trustee Emeritus to the Jack and Jill of America, Foundation and has served the Foundation in the position of Treasurer. She currently serves.

She is the Mother of 3 Jack and Jill of America Legacies, One Grandson that is a legacy and one grandson that is still in the grade group of the Washington, DC chapter. She loves this wonderful organization and continues to serve it.
