First, make sure you are using a HDTV. If you are still using the old CRT, your computer monitor has a higher quality display that is not compatible with your TV.

1. Connect your PC to your TV via a HDMI cable.

The HDMI port on your PC and the HDMI port on the TV are the same and the HDMI cable should have the same connector on both ends. If your TV has more than one HDMI cable, you should make note of the port number you plug it into.

2. Change the input of your TV.

Pick up the TV remote or use the buttons on the TV, and then press the Input button to change the input of the TV to HDMI.

If there is more than one HDMI port on your TV, you need to select the HDMI port that is connect to your PC. While, sometimes, your TV can automatically change the input when it detect a signal.

3. Right-click on the desktop of your computer and then select Display Settings.

4. Click Detect. Then, your computer will begin to look for the TV you have connected to it. Then, you can discover that there are two squares in the window, labeled 1 and 2.

5. Click Identify. This can show a label on each screen so that you can know which number is assigned to your computer monitor and which number has been assigned to your TV. (1 is the main display and 2 is the secondary display)

6. Click Multiple displays to unfold it and then select an option that you want to use.

Duplicate these displays: it will mirror exactly what is on your computer screen on the TV.

Extend these displays: it will make your TV an extended part of your desktop.

Show only on 1: it will turn off the display number 2.

Show only on 2: it will turn off the display number 1.
