HBCU Tours Webinar PowerPoint Presentation
Tours have been curated for each of the 7 regions, there are over 100 HBCUs and they were selected based on proximity to one another in terms of ease for travel by motorcoach, homecoming date, weather and location.
The younger Jacks and Jills should be exposed to HBCUs through chapter programming and the HBCU thrust.
Yes, priority is to fill the bus with teens and chaperones from the identified region, but if there is interest for other tours and there is space on another region’s tour, the participant can express interest on the intent form.
Missing school days will be up to each family. We will provide a letter explaining the tour for schools to consider excusing the missed school days for the tour.
Yes, the tours are designed for teens and chaperones to participate in their regional tour. If a mother is from the Mid-Western Region, her teen would attend the Mid-Western tour and the Hampton Homecoming, for example.
First priority is to fill tours with the identified members of the region. If there is space on alternate tours, consideration can be given for teens to attend a tour with a different region.
Adults (mothers and fathers) can identify themselves as interested in serving as a chaperone. The chaperone list will be created based on the interest expressed on the intent form. Those selected will then be asked to register.
The cost of the trip does not include flights. Parents must secure flights for teen participants based on the chosen itinerary.
With prior notice and if we can accommodate the interested party on the tour, a teen and their guardian might be able to join a specific college tour, but they could not join the excursions or ride on the bus. This is different from participating in the Inaugural HBCU Tour in that one might be able to walk a campus with the group, but it is also not guaranteed.
A tour of the “homecoming school” will be limited but a tour will be facilitated by current students, alumni or faculty of the school. Other tours will be facilitated by the school tour team, but we will create a tour opportunity for the “homecoming school”.
Teens will be met by a chaperone at the designated airport upon arrival according to the itinerary. Airport shuttles will be taken to the hotel upon arrival on the first day.
Yes, teens can meet at the start location. The price will remain the same because pricing includes bus transportation, excursions, hotels and meals. It does not include flights.
Teens meeting with athletic recruiters or other department leads can be supported if families communicate with the Lead Chaperone prior to the beginning of the trip.
