Aziz Abdur-Ra’oof is a former NFL player, and has experience in marketing, career planning, and program development. He has served as an inspirational performance coach who leverages his multilayered life experiences from entrepreneurship to being a professional athlete. Mr. Abdur-Ra’oof has expertise in the field of mentoring and working with youth. He has been working with the Pasadena area schools in Maryland for at least 5 years and he has been impactful, in particular, at Northeast High School. Mr. Abdur-Ra’oof has been instrumental in efforts to build rapport with students and their families who have been traditionally disenfranchised from the school’s mission “To challenge, inspire, and prepare every student for a postsecondary opportunity,” as well as the school’s vision, “To get to a place where student’s socio-economic background is no longer a predictor of their academic success.”

Dr. Stephanie Akoumany is the Founder and CEO of Bloom Wellness Lab and host of The Blooming is A Habit Podcast. Dr. Akoumany is an optimal performance consultant, interpersonal relationships expert, speaker, researcher, educator, world schooling mom, marathoner, and yogi, who helps schools, businesses, nonprofits, universities, and government offices, and institutions cultivate cultures that embrace diversity, equity, inclusion, resilience, and holistic wellness.

She is a native Baltimorean and earned her B.A. and Ph.D. in American Studies focusing on social justice and youth, and adult resilience and mindfulness strategies in the face of adversity at the University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Akoumany's dissertation highlights how black early adolescent girls utilize resilience strategies, particularly, self-assertion, storytelling, creativity, play, and community building to cope with daily stressors. In 2009, Stephanie interned at the U.S. House of Representatives and introduced President Barack Obama at a televised White House press conference advocating for increased Pell Grants for college students from low to middle socio-economic statuses. Professor Talisha Dunn-Square is a public relations lecturer in the Department of Communications at Bowie State University. She is the creator and owner of The PRactitioner PRofessor brand. She was an award-winning public relations, journalism and marketing
professional with over 15 years of industry experience. The skilled writer and editor has worked for several traditional and digital publications including The Advocate newspaper, Patch Media and Examiner. com. She also served as the chief publicist for the historical Huey P. Long Bridge Widening Project in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Recently, she was awarded the inaugural “Distinguished Achievement in Teaching Award” from Bowie State’s Office of the President. She was also selected as an “Outstanding Young Faculty” awardee for the College of Arts and Sciences. Throughout her career, she earned awards from other organizations such as the Louisiana Press Association, Women in Media, World Road Association PIARC and the Press Club of New Orleans. Dunn-Square is the author of a new textbook titled, “A (PR)actical Guide to Social Media” through Kendall Hunt Publishing Company. The book is designed to be a one-stop resource on how to integrate social media and public relations successfully. Dunn-Square has a B.A. in Mass Communications from Southern University and A&M College and a M.A. in Organizational Communication from Bowie State University. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership for Changing Populations at Notre Dame of Maryland University (Baltimore, Maryland). Dunn-Square is a member of several professional organizations including the National Association of Black Journalists, Baltimore Association of Black Journalists and the Maryland Communication Association. Town Hall - How to Raise A Child In an Entitled World

Dr. Herman J. Felton Jr. is the 17th President and CEO of Wiley College. Dr. Felton began his service to the College in the summer of 2018. In a short period of time, he has achieved significant accomplishments, including spearheading a campaign with College alumni and supporters that has launched the work to renovate and modernize the Thomas W. Cole Library, and partnering with the Marshall Economic Development Corporation to receive a $100,000 grant to renovate KBWC (the College’s radio station) as well as a training space for physical education majors. President Felton has also created a Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Unit for the College. In addition to his accomplishments on Wiley’s campus, President Felton has immersed himself in the fabric of the Marshall Community, where he is a member of the Marshall Rotary Club, the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, and the Citizens Advisory Council.

Dr. Felton comes to Wiley College from Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio, where he served as the school’s 21st president. Prior to his appointment at Wilberforce University, Dr. Felton served as senior vice president, chief operating officer and vice president of institutional advancement for Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He also was the director of development while serving as a lecturer in the Government, Law, and International Affairs Department at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. Dr. Felton earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. Also, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida and completed graduate work at Jackson State University, where he earned the Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration and Supervision. He is co-founder of the Higher Education Leadership Foundation (H.E.L.F.), an organization ensuring that a pipeline of transformational, highly skilled, and principled leaders are identified and cultivated to meet the needs, challenges, and opportunities facing the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Dr. Felton served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years. He is married to the lovely Katherine Anne Felton and is the father of Jamal, Paige, and Herman III.

Dr. Maisha Gillins is the Executive Director of the Office of Equity and Accelerated Student Achievement for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. The goal of the office is to work with schools, parents, and the community to create equitable school cultures that are vital to eliminating gaps in student achievement. She is also an adjunct professor for Notre Dame of Maryland University where she has taught a master’s level course that focuses on emotional intelligence, brain-based research, culturally responsive instruction and critical race theory for the past twelve years. Dr. Gillins earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education at Virginia State University, a master’s degree in administrative leadership at Bowie State University and a doctorate in educational leadership for changing populations at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Syretta R. James is a board certified licensed psychologist serving individuals throughout their lifespan. She currently manages the organizational operations at a non-profit community-based group mental health practice situated in two locations in the state of Maryland. Dr. James earned her doctorate from Howard University and has received specialized training as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist, and Child and Family Forensic Practitioner. Her skill-set combines education and practice in addressing complex mental health diagnoses including neurodevelopmental issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression. She also provides forensic assessments and interventions for court involved families.

Dr. James’ empirical work has appeared in publications for The Centre for Policy and Practice, The Society for Prevention Research, The Center for Substance Abuse and Prevention (CSAP), and the National Association of African American Studies and Affiliates (NAAAS). She also has conducted a number of presentations for local, state, and national organizations. In addition to her role at Respire Behavioral Health, Dr. James has a passion for teaching and training. She currently serves as a Maryland Judiciary Child Counsel Faculty member. In addition, she has previously held faculty positions at Loyola University of Maryland and Bowie State University. Among her peers, Dr. James is highly regarded for her professionalism and innovation. She has an uncompromising desire for service and regularly uses her knowledge and experiences to inspire others. When she is not working, Dr. James enjoys reading, exercising, and eating. She also enjoys spending time with her two children, husband, and dog.

The Chief Perspective Shifter, Rev. Jimeka Jones Setzer, is a third-generation graduate of Howard University earning a Master of Divinity degree; also earning a Muslim-Christian Studies Certificate from the Washington Theological Consortium. As a spiritual wellness coach, she recently released the Well-Woman Membership program; a monthly online subscription that supports the spiritual wellness needs of God-centered women through guided meditation, monthly mantras and affirmation playlists; she also creates a more intimate, sacred space for women to do their inner work through one-on-one coaching.

She is convener of I Am the Balm Wellness Retreat, an intimate overnight experience for women who are ready to create a deeper connection with God, self, and sisterhood. She is the creator of Grown Woman Society, an online masterclass series designed to re-image the narratives of women in sacred texts to (re)discover the beauty in one’s own life story. Pastor Jimeka serves on the Pastoral Leadership Team in her faith community in Washington, D.C. She and her husband celebrate over 16 years of marriage, and the proud parents of one daughter.

Temple Lester is the gifted, award-winning 13-year old creator of “STEM Swag Box.” The STEM Swag Box was created by Temple to make STEM-education fun! Her science kit is exploding with hands-on experiments. She expressed an interest in science at a very early age. In 3rd grade, she launched www.JustTemple.com, a website dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Technology (STEM). Her goal is to encourage more of her peers to take an interest in science. Temple provides free workshops, classes and motivational talks to get youth involved in STEM. Temple’s workshops are full of fun activities and exciting science experiments. Through volunteerism and social media, she has exposed over 10,000 people to STEM!
Temple has received many awards and honors. She was featured in Atlanta Intown Paper, spotlighting the 11th annual 20 Under 20 honorees. DeKalb Chamber of Commerce honored her as its 2019 Youth Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2017, she was the Georgia Science Teachers Association (GSTA) STEM-Talk winner. The Corporate Volunteer Council (Atlanta) recognized Temple’s leadership and innovation by presenting her with the prestigious 2019 Carol D. Reiser Youth Service Award. Temple has delivered keynote speeches for numerous schools and organizations including Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. Jamal Simmons has spent nearly three decades focused on politics and media, innovation, economic competitiveness, and diversity. Most recently he explored those themes as a political contributor for CBS News, opinion writer for The Hill and host of #ThisisFYI on Instagram and Facebook. Jamal produced and hosted Hill TV digital programming where he interviewed presidential candidates, congressional leaders, celebrities, and activists. Jamal was also with the Raben Group where he advised many leaders for decades. He also served as co-chair of the Internet Innovation Alliance and founded CRVIII (CRATE), a digital media start-up. Jamal managed Bill Clinton’s traveling press charter during his successful 1992 presidential campaign. Jamal interned with Citibank’s Global Trade Finance Group and served in a professional role in the United Technologies Corporation international affairs office in Washington. Before the age of 30, Jamal was chief of staff to a member of the House Appropriations Committee, managed over 60 media staff in 40 states for Gore/Lieberman 2000 and served as a Gore spokesman in West Palm Beach, during the Florida recount.

He also served as Communications Director for U.S. Senator Max Cleland’s reelection campaign (2002), and traveling press secretary to two presidential primary candidates (2004). In 2008, Jamal helped manage the Nevada Democratic Caucus, was the lead Obama campaign surrogate on CNN during the primaries, and worked for Obama/Biden at the Democratic National Committee. Jamal was a regular presence on MSNBC, NPR, and ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, as well as lead interviewer for Season 2 of The Root 100 miniseries on Magic Johnson’s Aspire network. Jamal is a Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation honorary board member, a former Council on Foreign Relations term member and French American Foundation Young Leader. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehouse College (1993) and a Master’s in public policy degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School (1998).
