Lehman Benson III is a tenured professor in the Management and Organizations Department at the University of Arizona, where he also holds a joint appointment in the Systems and Industrial Engineering Department. Additionally, Professor Benson served as the Pillar Three Owner of the University of Arizona’s strategic plan. In his various roles at the university, he has helped students, faculty, and staff advance their careers and engage effectively with stakeholders.
Professor Benson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Davis, his Master of Arts from the University of California, San Diego, and his Ph.D. from the University of Lund in Sweden. He also obtained a certificate in Risk Management from Harvard University and served as a Presidential Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
Professor Benson's research focuses on how stress, time constraints, risk assessment, and feedback influence judgment and decision-making. He has authored numerous articles in esteemed journals, such as the Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Group Decision and Negotiation, and the Psychological Research Bulletin. Additionally, Professor Benson has worked or taught at several prestigious institutions, including the University of Lund (in Sweden), Georgetown University, and Duke University.
Professor Benson teaches courses in Personal Brand Management, Organizational Behavior, Bargaining and Negotiation, Leadership, and Human Resource Management. Throughout his tenure at the University of Arizona, he has received several teaching and advising awards, including Professor of the Year, Undergraduate Teacher of the Year, Advisor of the Year, and the Eller Evening MBA Outstanding Professor award.
In addition to his roles in research and teaching, Professor Benson collaborates with colleagues from the University of Arizona's Athletics Department and the Arizona Healthcare Leadership Academy. He is also a member of the University's Intercollegiate Athletic Committee (ICAC). He has conducted seminars on time management and personal brand management for the University of Arizona's men’s and women’s basketball teams.
