Candice Helton became a Civil Servant at the U.S. Department of State in 2015 after converting from the Pathways Internship Program. She currently serves as the Public Affairs Specialist in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs in the Office of Public Liaison. In that capacity, Candice fosters relationships with the American people and Department officials to gain a deeper understanding of U.S. foreign policy priorities. She excels in this role by leveraging her interpersonal skills with academics, think tanks, and NGOs through the tailored programs she oversees. Candice honorably leads the coordination for the Department’s annual Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Foreign Policy Conference. Prior to this role from 2015-2020, she served as the Public Affairs Specialist in the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, Communications Office. In that role, she organized senior-level engagements, developed digital media campaigns, provided coaching on public speaking, and facilitated press interviews.

Candice is an active member of Thursday Network, the young professional auxiliary to the Greater Washington Urban League where she served as the Public Relations Digital Media chairperson from 2018-2019. She earned her Master's degree in Strategic Communication and Public Relations from Trinity Washington University and her Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Winston-Salem State University. She serves on the Executive Board as the Media Relations Chairperson for Winston-Salem State University’s DC Alumni Chapter. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She resides right outside of Washington, DC, and a Louisiana native.
