Dr. January graduated in 1990 from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Pre-Med/Zoology and went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She graduated in 1994 with a Doctor of Medicine. She then moved to Atlanta, Ga. to complete her Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in 1997. She has been Board Certified in Internal Medicine since 1997. Her special interest is in Preventive Medicine and Primary Care due to her desire to have longitudinal relationships with her patients. That led to her working clinically in a variety of Primary Care settings including HMO’s, the UCSD VA Hospital where she served as a preceptor for medical students and saw patients clinically, and Community Health clinics until 2013. Since that time, she has worked as an Associate Medical Director in Utilization Review for a large healthcare company. She has always had a heart for service which has influenced her choice of profession and civic affiliations.

She is a charter member of The Greater North Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. she has proudly served in her chapter on numerous committees, Charter Sergeant at Arms, Grade Group Sponsor, Senior Teen Sponsor, and Chapter President. She is the Immediate Past Southeastern Region Editor and Bylaws Chair and is the Immediate Past Southeastern Region representative to the National Constitution & Bylaws Committee. She was selected as a Fellow in the Inaugural Marion Stubbs Leadership Academy, and she was recently elected in July and is currently serving as the Southeastern Regional Secretary. She enjoys the many opportunities the organization has provided for her and her children to serve the community they live in.

Dr. Sharon January was born in Columbia, S.C. and is one of four children. She grew up in a military family which allowed her the opportunity to travel and live in many places. She has been happily married to her husband Michael since 1997. They are the proud parents of Michael, Jr. (23), Wesley (21), Grant (18), and Kennedy (12). She and her family are members of Eagles Nest Church where she serves in the Greeters Ministry. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., National Association of Parliamentarians, National Medical Association, American College of Physicians, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. She enjoys spending time with her family, socializing with friends, watching football, bowling, and playing and watching tennis.
