23rd National President Tamara Turnley Robinson is a technology advocate, an accomplished leader and a champion for children. She has a 25-year background in computer technology sales, marketing, management and consulting and over 20 years of nonprofit leadership.
Tamara was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the eldest of three children born to Richard & Joyce Turnley. Her father was the founding chair of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, and her mother was an elementary school teacher. She and her siblings, Sharon and Richard III, were a part of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Jack and Jill chapter in the South Central Region.
Tamara graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA summa cum laude with a degree in Computer Science. While at SUBR, she pledged Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Southern California, graduating with honors. Upon graduation, she joined IBM where she was employed for over 25 years.
She is married to Leon Robinson Jr., 40 years and has three wonderful sons, Jason, currently a product manager at Google in San Francisco, CA; Juleon, currently matriculating in the PhD program at the University of California, Berkeley and Jordan, currently pursuing a Masters in Global Medicine at the University of Southern California.
Tamara joined Jack and Jill under the newly created legacy membership status in 1988, Los Angeles, CA chapter where she served as chapter editor. She transferred to the North Suburban Atlanta Chapter in 1993 where she served as chapter treasurer, two terms as chapter program director and two terms as chapter president. She served on the regional level as Southeastern Regional Director and nationally as a board member, Jack and Jill of American Foundation, and as JJOA National Vice President and 23rd National President with the theme: “Power and Potential: Parents Empowering Youth” emphasizing legislative advocacy and cultural awareness, renewing our partnership with Marion Wright Edelman and the Children’s Defense Fund, and establishing a partnership with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. PNP Tamara tenured out of Jack and Jill in 2017 after 29 years as an active member. She is currently an active Associate member with the North Suburban Atlanta Chapter.
Tamara is a member of the Marietta-Roswell chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; the Dogwood City (GA) chapter of The Links, Inc., currently serving as National Director, Services To Youth Facet and the Atlanta chapter of The Girl Friends, Inc. currently serving as National Financial Secretary, The Girl Friends Fund, Inc.
She is the proud recipient of the Outstanding Georgia Citizen award and the Atlanta Mayors Phoenix Citizenship Award. She currently serves the children of her community as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Cobb County, Georgia.
