Katina Semien Smothers, Esq. is an attorney, motivational speaker and community advocate. A graduate of Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1997 and her Juris Doctorate from the Southern University Law School in 2000. A consummate professional, she has been listed in Who’s Who of America, and has been the recipient of numerous awards, honors and recognitions for her contributions to various organizations in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas. Mrs. Semien-Smothers currently serves as the Director of Community Programs in the Office of Programs and Planning under the leadership of Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards. In this capacity, she supervises twelve agencies within the Governor’s office while working closely with state and federal partners on policy and programming that positively impacts Louisiana residents. She has also operated a private law practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for more than 20 years that focuses primarily on legal issues revolving around families and children.
Mrs. Semien-Smothers served as the 25th South Central Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated from 2016-2020. In this role she supervised membership, administrative and organizational programmatic targets for almost 15,000 members of the sorority within four states: Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico.
Professionally, she sits on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance of Children’s Trust Funds and is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Gamma Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), The Ivy Foundation, Incorporated, The Spouses and Partners Task Force for the Council of Independent Colleges, La Capitale Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and Chairman of the Former Directorate Leadership Council for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorproated.
Mrs. Semien-Smothers is married Dr. Roderick L. Smothers, Sr., the 14th President of the acclaimed HBCU Philander Smith College located in Little Rock, Arkansas.
