Located along the scenic Ashley River, Jenkins Youth and Family Village—also known as Jenkins on the Ashley—offers a beautiful and historic event space with deep cultural roots. Established in 1891 as the Jenkins Orphanage, this institution became a national symbol of resilience, faith, and opportunity for African-American children during the post-Reconstruction era. The Jenkins Orphanage Band introduced jazz and the famous “Charleston” dance to audiences around the world. Families will gather for a Family Reunion-style luncheon featuring Lowcountry cuisine, live music, and games that celebrate Gullah Geechee heritage and Southern hospitality. Enjoy community service, cultural showcases, and family fun surrounded by natural beauty and historic meaning.
