Dorinda Andrews has been a member of the Greater Lansing (MI) Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated since 2014. She is an Immediate Past Chapter President (2016-2020) and Past Michigan COE Lead (2018-2020). Dorinda has also served her chapter as Recording Secretary, Parliamentarian, Grade Group Chair, and in several other capacities. At the regional level, she has served on the Regional Registration Team, Regional Growth and Development Committee, and as a Faculty Member in the Rising Star Leadership Academy. Dorinda is currently Chair of the Regional Small Chapter Development Committee and Chair of the National Small and Mighty Task Force. Dorinda and her husband, Michael, have three daughters (ages 11, 12, and 14).
Dorinda is "an engineer by training and an educator by birth." She is the first Black female chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University, a position she has held for two years. She is only the second Black woman to earn tenure in her department. Dorinda is a lifelong educator, having taught kindergarten, high school math, and now having been a professor of race, culture, and equity for over 15 years at MSU. She is an internationally known speaker and consultant on racial equity in education and has given two TEDx talks on the topic. One of her passions is improving educational experiences and outcomes for Black youth.
A native of Decatur, GA, Dorinda is also an ordained minister at Tabernacle of David Church (Lansing, MI) and holds degrees from Georgia Tech (B.S.I.E.), Vanderbilt University (M.Ed.), and Harvard University (EdM and EdD). She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (Lansing Alumnae Chapter) and The Links, Incorporated. (Lansing/East Lansing Chapter)
